Offset was on fire!

With over 2,500 attendees each year, Offset has fast become one of the worlds most inspirational, educational and vocational conferences for the design and creative industries.

Held over the 21st and 22nd of October, Offset Sheffield was the culmination of a series of exhibitions and events featured during Sheffield Design Week. Greensquare’s Creative Director Phil Westwood attended.

The event was held at Sheffield’s iconic Crucible Theatre and featured two stages, the main stage for in-depth presentations and a more informal second stage providing an intimate platform for speakers and attendees to debate and discuss topics at the top of the creative agenda.

Topics were wide ranging, from how the power of illustration can influence and improve the humble bar code, to the creative expertise behind visual effects (VFX) currently adding a touch of magic to the advertising, film and entertainment industries.

Phil commented: "It was great to spend time in the company of fellow creative professionals from around the UK and Europe and design students from Sheffield. The conversations were thought provoking and there was energy to the event that was intoxicating.

“The speakers were excellent and it was interesting to hear how they approached certain projects, the diversity of disciplines made it all the more fascinating. If I had to pick a couple of standouts then I would say Studio Laucke Sieben from Amsterdam for their dedication to creative thinking with typography and Dublin based illustrator Steve Simpson for his inventiveness with the bar codes that feature on his designs for sauce and whisky bottles. It’s this attention to detail that makes the good into the truly great.

This is the first Offset event I have attended and I’ll be looking to attend others. I’d love the Offset road show roll into Birmingham sometime soon.”
